5 Caribbean Destinations That I Really Want To Visit

I have traveled to many European destinations (and some Asian destinations as well) but what I really have on my bucket list is the Caribbean. This particular cluster of tiny nations with spectacular beaches & warm people is a place where I really want to go in 2019.

There are quite a few options when it comes to planning a trip to the Caribbean. Flights, cruises, private yachts, everything becomes affordable once you reach the USA or any Central American destination. For me, I have a list of favorite Caribbean destinations where I really want to go.

1. Castries, St. Lucia

If you haven’t heard about a country called St. Lucia, then I don’t blame you. This tiny Caribbean island nation is very popular when it comes to tourism. The capital of St. Lucia is Castries which has a population just 11,000. Castries is a famous cruise stop. The main market of Castries & its locals makes it really worth visiting.

From Castries, you can take a trip to The Pitons – two volcanic spires which are listed under UNESCO World Heritage site & also depicted on the national flag of St. Lucia.

2. St. George’s, Grenada

Concord Falls, Grenada

Another gem of the Caribbean is Grenada. The country is full of historical sites & scenic sites. As an Indian, I am also interested in seeing a spice estate of the Caribbean. If you love chocolates (like me), The Grenada Chocolate Company makes the world’s best dark chocolates. Grenada is definitely on my list because of the dark chocolates.

There are many waterfalls like Concord Waterfalls, Annadale Waterfall, Seven Sister Waterfalls that are worth visiting. If you like rum, then there are many rum distilleries that sell rum & you can also take guided tours here. From St. George’s, you can also visit a small town called Gouyave which is famous for fish.

3. Kingstown, St. Vincent & the Grenadines

Kingstown St Vincent

Kingstown (the capital of St. Vincent & the Grenadines) is not as famous as Kingston (which is the capital of Jamaica). There seems to be a little confusion as well because St. Vincent & the Grenadines is not a famous nation. But trust me, there’s a reason why Kingstown is on my Caribbean bucket list.

If you are a fan of The Pirates of the Caribbean, you will love exploring the sites where this film was shot. Many locations in the film were of St. Vincent & the Grenadines. The most fun part about this Caribbean country is the music, food & some panoramic views from Fort Charlotte. If you happen to go here in July you can participate in a fun carnival as well.

4. Roseau, Dominica

Dominica is an island nation full of nature. The truest definition of tropics has to be Dominica. Morne Trois Pitons National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site & it is a (huge) 17,000 acres of protected area. In Dominica, there are many opportunities of attempting at water sports. Champagne is famous for being one of the most beautiful spots for snorkeling.

If you want to experience the real Caribbean village life, head to Dominica’s villages. Some of the most beautiful villages are Belles & Dleau Gommier.

5. Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis

And finally, the trilogy of ‘Saint’ countries of the Caribbean comes to an end with St. Kitts & Nevis. This particular country’s capital, Basseterre, is famous among cruise passengers & the city has quite a lot to explore. Even if you stay in the city for more than 2 days, you will not regret it.

Apart from historical buildings in Basseterre, you can head to Brimsone Hill Fortress, or take a railway to see some sugar plantations. If you are into diving, St. Kitts & Nevis is a must-visit country for you. With some of the best sea life, beautiful corals, and fascinating shipwrecks, St. Kitts & Nevis is worth diving in.

There are many ways to explore these places but I feel the best way of exploring some of these fascinating Caribbean destinations is definitely via a cruise line. The best cruise company I found was Celebrity’s luxury cruises to the Caribbean. Many of their cruise itineraries contain mostly all the destinations that are mentioned above.
